Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week (Jan. 26)

INDIANAPOLIS - The Findlay men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Ashland in a dual meet last Saturday, earning the Oilers Great Midwest Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week Honors.

The Findlay men defeated the Eagles by a score of 158-27 and the women won 133-95. 

The Hillsdale women’s swimming and diving team also competed last Saturday in a quad meet at Bethel University. The Chargers beat all teams: 146-114 over Indiana Wesleyan, 176-79 over Bethel and 187-64 over Anderson University. 

Hillsdale will next compete at Olivet College on January 30. Findlay’s next scheduled meet is February 6 at Saginaw Valley.

Daniel Garcia took first place in three events on Saturday to help the Oilers to a team win over Ashland. The freshman won the 400 yard IM, touching the wall in 4:07.88. He also took first in the 100 yard breaststroke, with a time of 57.58.

Garcia teamed up with Tim Stollings, Adam Hornak and Kristofers Bregis to win the 400 yard medley with a time of 3:28.16.

Women’s Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week

Kristina Coleman also heavily contributed to the Oilers team win, as she took first in the 50 yard freestyle, 100 yard breaststroke and 400 yard medley relay.

The junior was part of the 400 medley relay team of Sarah Miles, Zoey Fedele and Cecilia Langle, that took first with a time of 4:03.67.

Coleman then went on to touch first in the 50 yard freestyle, with a time of 25.33. She won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:09.25.
