Men’s Basketball Player of the Week (Jan. 25)

1.25.21

INDIANAPOLIS – Five weeks remain in the regular season as a new Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week was announced for his efforts in two wins on Monday afternoon.

Nationally-ranked Findlay (9) and Hillsdale (17) continue to set a torrid pace at the top of the conference standings. Both programs are 9-1 while Hillsdale is in the midst of a six-game win streak and Findlay has earned three straight victories.

Again the Chargers and Oilers had common opponents while making the trip down to Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene.

The good news is that 10 games were completed on the men’s side in the past week of competition, including four on Thursday and five on Saturday.

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Conner TenHove
Cedarville
Forward
Senior
Valparaiso, IN (Valparaiso HS)

TenHove was locked in to help guide the Yellow Jackets to a pair of conference wins at home vs. Ohio Dominican and on the road at Lake Erie.

The senior forward averaged a double-double with 22.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, while shooting almost 58 percent from the field. He made seven three-pointers and chipped in three assists per game as well.

The Yellow Jackets are rounding into the form that had the league’s coaches them second in the 2020-21 preseason poll. Cedarville gained redemption from an overtime defeat earlier in the year by taking down ODU while a young Lake Erie program forced OT while the Yellow Jackets outscored the Storm, 14-5.

TenHove was on the court for 37 minutes in the Lake Erie contest, finishing just one rebound shy of a double-double. The senior produced 22 points and 9 boards while making seven field goals and as many free throws.

In Thursday’s win in the Callan Athletic Center, TenHove shared a game-high scoring total of 23 points with teammate Quinton Green as CU opened up a 21-point cushion at halftime. He also had 13 rebounds for the double-double and dished out five assists.

TenHove’s offensive outburst had Cedarville knocking on the door of the century mark in scoring and the Yellow Jackets shot better than 57 percent on all attempts.

TenHove playing like the first team all-conference performer he was in 2018-19 is a scary thought for opponents as the season wears on. He still averaged 12 and 7 last season as a junior while

This year he is averaging almost 16 points per game in five contests as Cedarville takes a 4-2 record into a Monday night affair vs. Lake Erie again. He is currently 13th all-time among all scorers in conference history with 1,234 points while closing in quickly on former CU standouts Marcus Reineke (1,238) and Patrick Bain (1,266) to move into the top 10.

This is TenHove’s second conference career weekly honor.
