2019-20 United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award Recipients

INDIANAPOLIS
– Several men’s and women’s programs in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference were recognized by the United Soccer Coaches organizations for 2019-20 Team Academic Awards announced Thursday.

United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year.

College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2019-20 academic year.

A total of 889 college teams (333 men, 556 women) earned the Team Academic Award, including 176 schools who had both their men’s and women’s programs recognized.

Cedarville had both soccer programs recognized for the annual honor with Brett Faro coaching the men and Jonathan Meade guiding the women. The Yellow Jackets’ men had a combined 3.35 GPA and the women recorded a 3.67 cumulative GPA.

Three other women’s programs each had a GPA exceeding 3.0 for the 2019-20 academic year including Malone, Tiffin and Walsh.

The Pioneers, coached by Bailey Shattell, checked with a 3.59 team GPA. Tiffin, in its first year led by Dean Joseph, finished with a 3.53 GPA, and Walsh, led by Lauren Lewicki, also earned the academic honor with a 3.51 team GPA.

A team nominated for the honor is required to have an annual membership within the professional organization.
