LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference contributed to record-breaking numbers reported by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for the 2019-20 Team Academic Award.
The organization announced that 1,315 teams received the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 season, topping last year’s record by almost 200 teams. A total of 232 programs received the honor for the first time in 2020.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball programs that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale.
In all three NCAA women’s divisions, over 50 percent of the membership won the award, led by 68 percent in Division I, 57 percent in Division II and 53 percent in Division III. A total of 171 Division II institutions were recognized for their achievement.
In the Great Midwest, Cedarville, Findlay, Hillsdale, Ohio Dominican and Walsh all were recipients of the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for 2019-20.
