INDIANAPOLIS – Several Great Midwest Athletic Conference programs and individuals were recognized by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the organization’s traditional year-end academic honors.
The CSCAA published its annual Scholar All-American Teams earlier this week with Findlay and Hillsdale earning team recognition along with incoming 2021-22 member institution Ashland.
Both Ashland and Findlay were on the CSCAA Spring Scholar All-American Team roster while Hillsdale’s women’s program also made the prestigious list.
The individual award for the CSCAA Scholar All-American Team recognizes student-athletes who achieved a GPA of 3.50 or higher and were invited to compete at their respective national championship. Selections were drawn from 209 colleges and universities.
Seven NCAA qualifiers from Findlay, including four women and three men, were on the CSCAA Scholar All-American Team after also receiving Great Midwest Academic All-Conference Team honors earlier in the month.
Senior Hanna Cederholm, sophomore Kristina Coleman, senior Katy Kouvaris and sophomore Christina McFarland, all met the stringent academic qualifications.
UF freshman Tim Stollings, sophomore Paul Pavala and junior diver Dalton Shevlin, were part of the men’s academic standouts. The Oilers are coached by Andrew Makepeace.
Hillsdale’s program under the direction of Kurt Kirner made the grade as the CSCAA selected a record 789 swimming programs around the country from 461 total schools for just the Spring 2020 semester.
The Chargers celebrated a banner season which included a Great Midwest women’s championship team title at the combined conference meet in Canton, Ohio.
The conference is looking forward to the addition of Ashland for full membership during its silver season anniversary of 10 years in 2021-22. The Eagles excelled under head coach Kyle Walthall and will continue to increase the level of competition between the Great Midwest and Mountain East.
One day of competition was officially completed at the 2020 NCAA Division II Championships before the reamining three days of events were canceled by COVID-19.
Across all three divisions, a total of 1,479 student-athletes were named to the CSCAA Scholar All-American Team for the 2019-20 season.
