2019-20 Great Midwest Academic All-Conference Team Announced

7.1.20

INDIANAPOLIS – Over 2,000 student-athletes from around the league were officially named to the 2019-20 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team that was released on Wednesday afternoon.

All member institutions, full and associate, once again contributed to significant and notable record numbers across the board. Student-athletes competing in 23 total championship sports were included with this year's list gathered together by faculty athletic representatives and the league's sports information professionals.

A total of 2,254 student-athletes, including freshmen for the second year in a row, were part of the largest Great Midwest Academic All-Conference Team roster in the league’s history. The cumulative total surpassed last year's strong number of 1,967 for the new overall single-season record.

It was the eighth consecutive season that numbers increased across the board, revealing sustained league-wide academic success as the Great Midwest continued to push for new levels of excellence.

The 2019-20 Presidents’ Cup runner-up Walsh University staked claim to the most individuals on the academic all-conference team list with a new record of 313. The University of Findlay had 269, the previous record, during the 2018-19 academic year with a cumulative 3.30 GPA or better.

Tiffin University produced the second-highest number this year with 269 student-athletes and Findlay reported 256. Many schools saw significant spikes from their academic all-conference team numbers – five more institutions had 150 or more receiving the honor.

Associate member schools in men’s lacrosse, Mercyhurst, Seton Hill and Davis & Elkins, also accounted for almost 50 names alone.

A new record total of 146 student-athletes also held the coveted distinction of carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA or better, an increase by 46 from a year ago.

To be named to the Great Midwest Academic All-Conference Team, the student-athlete’s grade point average must be a minimum of 3.30 based on the 4.0 system, the GPA shall be cumulative for the student-athlete’s entire collegiate career and the student-athlete must have completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution. Student-athlete GPA's reported by each institution were reflected through the spring semester.

The Great Midwest institutions will look to take aim for yet another record-breaking number during the 2020-21 season to receive their respective academic all-conference team accolades.
