Three Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

The 2020 Academic All-District Softball Teams were released and the Great Midwest landed three student-athletes as decided by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Junior catcher Bailey Byers (Alliance, OH/West Branch) of Malone and senior infielders MaKray Odom (Dickinson, TN/Dickinson County) of Trevecca and Lexie Mullen of Kentucky Wesleyan (Owensboro, KY/Daviess County) were selected First Team for District 4.

The District 4 team is made up of 12 Division II student-athletes from the Great Midwest, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

The Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. 

Byers is a two-time All-Conference selection, and was named First Team All-Midwest Region and NFCA Third Team All-American last season. 

Byers has a career batting average of .406, with 115 career hits including a school record 21 homeruns. Her .749 slugging percentage is ninth-highest among all active players in NCAA Division II. The junior carries a 3.47 GPA in the classroom as an Exercise Science major. 

Odom is a two-time G-MAC Player of the Year selection, and was named All-Midwest Region and All-American by both the NFCA and Division II CCA last season. 

Odom owns a career batting average of .513. In the 2018-19 season, she led the league in batting average (.565), on-base percentage (.590), runs (59), hits (100), and stolen bases (50). Her 50 stolen bases is a Trevecca and Great Midwest single-season record. In the classroom, Odom holds a 3.55 GPA as an education major. 

Mullen is a two-time First Team All-Conference selection and an Academic All-Conference selection, as well as a Second Team All-Midwest Region selection.

Through four seasons, Mullen posted a .325 batting average with 198 hits, including 36 doubles and a school record 32 homeruns. Her 150 RBI is a school and conference record. Mullen carries a 3.40 GPA as an Elementary Education/English major. 

Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 8-11. The CoSIDA Academic All-America contest Is career based this spring due to the varied season lengths that were completed.  Sophomores or above athletically and academically are eligible. Graduate transfers were also immediately eligible. 
 
The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
