Final NFCA Division II Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS –
In a shortened season due to COVID-19, Trevecca Nazarene officially closed out 2020 in 11th for the final National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Poll.

The Trojans, along with all other Great Midwest Athletic Conference institutions, were unable to start league play before the spring was halted.

Trevecca Nazarene still holds the best team ranking in Great Midwest history, earning No. 10 billing a few weeks ago as head coach Ben Tyree soared over 400 wins in his career.

TNU finished with a 15-3 overall record while securing six victories in the team’s Spring Break trip down in Florida during the most recent competition. The final two games vs. New York Tech and Indiana (PA) were canceled and Trevecca’s conference opener was slated to be on March 20 vs. Malone.

The Trojans swept then-No. 18 Alabama-Huntsville to land on the NFCA’s radar and faced off against previous No. 1 Young Harris back on Feb. 22. For back-to-back weeks TNU was ranked 11th in the national poll.

Two-time Great Midwest Player of the Year MaKray Odom and freshman pitcher Sidney Brake earned the first player of the week selections and another freshman, Anna Bennett, was named league player of the week in mid-February.

The Trojans hit .378 as a team as junior Megan Groves (.519), sophomore Lenna Robinson (.492) and the senior Odom (.478), all ranked as the best three hitters in the Great Midwest.

Groves was the league leader in both slugging percentage and RBI while off to a torrid start in the spring. Her 14 extra-base hits also led all players as she legged out 10 doubles, mashed three homers and recorded a triple.

The 2020 Great Midwest Softball Championship was slated to be held at Findlay’s Marathon Diamonds this year.
