Basketball Players of the Week (March 9)

3.9.20

INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship has concluded with Walsh earning the title for both men and women for the second consecutive year.

Mark Mokros and Mayci Sales of Walsh earn the last Player of the Week honors for the season after having a huge impact on their respective teams during the G-MAC Championship tournament.

On the women’s side, the Cavaliers dominated the three-game series as they beat teams by an average of 30 points. Walsh enters the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional as a No. 3 seed with the league’s automatic bid.

The men’s side was a slightly different story, as Walsh came back from a 23-point deficit in a quarterfinal matchup with Ohio Dominican to advance on a pair of free throws at the buzzer.

The Cavaliers then upset the home team No. 2 Findlay in the semifinals, before defeating Kentucky Wesleyan in the championship in what proved to be Walsh’s easiest game of the tournament. Walsh is an automatic qualifier in the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional as the No. 8 seed.

The tournament atmosphere was no different for Mokros as he shot 66.7 percent from deep (10-15) during the three-game stint.

His most impressive showing came in the semifinal round with seven three-pointers en route to 23 points to knock off Findlay on their home court. Mokros was perfect from three-point land (3-3) to add 13 points in the title game.
