INDIANAPOLIS – Walsh claimed both selections for Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Players of the Week awards as announced on Tuesday.
Player of the Week
Emma Bobey
Walsh
Infield
Sophomore
Medina, OH (Medina HS)
Bobey caused all kinds of problems for the pitching staff of Glenville State while batting in the heart of the order.
The sophomore corner infielder was an on-base and slugging machine in the Cavaliers’ season-opening series sweep, batting 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and four RBI.
She walked four times and had an OPS of .889 while slugging 1.200.
Bobey was clutch in the opener with the go-ahead RBI in the seventh inning, a double that scored two of her teammates. It was a perfect line at the dish as she finished 2-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.
In game two, Bobey was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and walks. She delivered an RBI single in Walsh’s five-run sixth inning. The Cavaliers won both contests by a 7-5 final.
Pitcher of the Week
Sara Gockenbach
Walsh
RHP
Sophomore
Groveport, OH (Groveport-Madison HS)
After falling to Walsh twice, Glenville State went on to win three of four the rest of the weekend, making Gockenbach’s dominance in a small sample size more that much more notable.
Gockenbach recorded 10 strikeouts in just 4.1 innings pitched in game two of Friday’s doubleheader for her first win of the spring.
The sophomore entered in relief of starter Alison Harper and faced 15 Glenville State batters in a scoreless and no-hit outing.
Gockenbach struck out five consecutive hitters, including the side in order in the fourth inning.
After GSC had runners on the corners with one out in the sixth inning, Gockenbach fanned the next two hitters swinging to get out of the jam.
