Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week (Feb. 10)

2.10.20

INDIANAPOLIS – Walsh and Findlay scored the seventh release of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week awards as announced on Monday.

Track Athlete of the Week
Andra Lehotay
Walsh
Distance
Senior
Magnolia, OH (Sandy Valley HS)

Traditionally, distance running has been at an elite level in the conference and Lehotay took aim at the top 10 in the record books during the mile event.

Lehotay was second in the Gold Division at the Akron Invitational with a time of 4:49.42. It was just her second time attempting the mile during the current indoor season.

The senior now ranks seventh in Division II and recorded the eighth fastest time in conference history.

Special mention goes to junior Alexa Leppelmeier, who provisionally qualified and nearly broke into the top 10 in a stacked 3K list with All-Americans Hannah McIntyre (Hillsdale), Olivia Esbenshade (Cedarville) and Sarah Berger (Walsh), all staking their claim to some of the top times.

Lehotay’s top time while running in the Great Midwest ranks fifth back in February of 2018 at the GVSU Big Meet.

Field Athlete of the Week
Lindsey Kluesener
Findlay
Pole Vault
Freshman
West Chester, OH (Lakota East HS)

Between Meadow Cromer, Morgan Englund and now Kluesener, the Oilers have a trio of provisional qualifiers in the pole vault.

The freshman cleared 3.91m (12’10”) at the Dragon Grand Prix to win the event and put her name in the conference record books in the top 10.

Kluesner, Cromer, England and Hannah Roy, are all underclassmen and together should continue to push each other to reach new heights as their careers unfold.

Kluesner is now ranked 11th in Division II among provisional qualifiers and checks in at fifth all-time in conference history.
