INDIANAPOLIS – With two teams out of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference cementing their status as NCAA Championship qualifiers, regional and national awards came pouring in for student-athletes to celebrate the 2019 season.
Findlay (at-large) and Walsh (AQ) both capitalized on their postseason runs with bids to the tough Midwest Regional.
The conference had a great variety of representation on different awards released by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA), the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the United Soccer Coaches organization.
Kentucky Wesleyan junior phenom Madisyn Hunt was top 10 in the country in both goals and points while leading the conference in both categories to become the league’s offensive player of the year. Hunt has 42 career goals and would need 18 in her senior campaign to become the all-time leader in conference history.
She can also do the same in total points with the overall record within striking distance. Hunt has 98 points while the all-time record is 139 held by Cedarville’s Jacoby Ziegler.
Hunt also became just the third Division II All-American out of the league recognized by the D2CCA as she landed on the third team.
Previously, Ohio Dominican’s Lauren Bates (2017 – NSCAA) and Cedarville’s Ziegler (2013 – Daktronics) have achieved All-American success in Division II.
The Panthers’ junior forward also doubled up for academic awards as she made both tiers of the CoSIDA Academic All-America program with a 3.74 GPA in forensic psychology.
The conference had eight total selections to the D2CCA All-Midwest Region Team, including six honorees on the second team. Eleven total names were called to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Team.
Cedarville’s Bex Velloney, a senior defender named Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Year, was a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American selection with a 3.88 GPA in nursing.
