INDIANAPOLIS
– Starting Thursday evening, the regular season for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference football programs officially kicks off.
 
Eleven weeks will ultimately determine the conference's fourth champion as the league continues to establish itself in Super Region 1 for NCAA Championship bids.
 
Three marquee matchups take center stage on Thursday under the lights as Alderson Broaddus (0-0)  tangles with Super Region 1 opponent Glenville State in the I-79 Barrel Classic.
 
Findlay (0-0), receiving votes in the AFAC Preseason Coaches Poll, has a tough matchup on the road up at No. 2 Ferris State, the national runner-up from 2018.
 
Lake Erie's new era under head coach Reilly Murphy officially takes flight as the Storm (0-0) face Super Region 1 opponent Mercyhurst on the road in Pennsylvania.
 
On Saturday, five more teams from the league begin the new year with more non-conference action highlighting the weekend schedule.
 
Three contests are slated for 1 p.m. ET starts, including defending conference champion and preseason coaches poll favorite Hillsdale (0-0) hosting Michigan Tech. The Chargers are also ranked 19th nationally by the AFCA and 21st by D2Football.com in their bid to be the first repeat league champion.
 
A battle of Super Region 1 teams unfolds in West Virginia as Ohio Dominican (0-0) faces Shepherd. Both teams are in the receiving votes category in the AFCA Preseason Coaches Poll.
 
Tiffin (0-0) ushers in the new coaching era with Cris Reisert, former offensive coordinator at Ohio Dominican, at the helm leading the program. The Dragons will be on the road to face Northwood.
 
Kentucky Wesleyan (0-0) will be playing in front of the home crowd at Steele Stadium against Concordia (MI), from the NAIA ranks. The Panthers also have a new coaching staff with first-year leader Craig Yeast ready to make his impact in Division II.
 
Week 1 concludes with Walsh (0-0) on the road in Pittsburgh taking on Division I FCS Duquesne.
 
The first Great Midwest Player of the Week selections (offense, defense, special teams) will be announced on Monday, September 9, following the first wave of games completed.
 
All home games from league schools will be streamed live on the Great Midwest Digital Network through the PrestoLive platform.
