United Soccer Coaches Poll - Week 3 Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Lake Erie climbed and Tiffin re-entered the national rankings after the new United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll was released on Monday.
The Storm scaled up in the rankings from No. 16 to No. 13 after defeating Cedarville in their lone matchup of the week. The men's soccer program at Lake Erie has started the season 6-0-0 with a goal differential of +8 and has been nothing short of dominant.
With Lake Erie, only a handful of teams are undefeated in the Division II men's ranks, including Maryville and Cal State Monterey Bay.
The Storm have been in close games this season and have seen two of their games head to overtime where they would eventually pull out victories. It all started on opening night for the Storm as they found themselves in a battle with GLIAC foe Ashland University. It took a long distance shot in double overtime from senior Javier Borreguero to start the season off with a win.
After opening night the Storm have continued to dominate opponents and with a 6-0-0 start to the season they will look to continue their winning ways as conference play heats up.
New to the rankings this week is Tiffin, the league's reigning regular-season and tournament champs. The Dragons started out the season ranked as the number 15 team in the country from the preseason, but after just one week of play they found themselves on the outside looking in the after a scoreless draw with Alderson Broaddus on opening night.
Tiffin is ranked 21st in the new poll after they had their best week of the season with road victories at conference opponents Findlay and Trevecca Nazarene. The Dragons also have a goal differential of +8 and have only allowed one goal all season.
Star forward Leo Hasenstab is continuing to lead the way for the Dragons as he has contributed to six of the nine goals this season and earned himself two conference offensive player of the week awards.
Both teams' defenses have been nothing short of stellar this season, but one may have to break this weekend as No. 21 Tiffin travels to No. 13 Lake Erie this Sunday in a ranked conference matchup that fans should have their eye on.
With a combined record of 10-0-2, a +16 goal differential and a combined total of three goals allowed this season, this conference matchup, on paper, may just be the best game of the season and we are only in September.
