Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (Sept. 16)

9.16.19

INDIANAPOLIS – Kentucky Wesleyan and Lake Erie each earned a share of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week honors that were announced Monday afternoon.

The lid on the conference schedule flips this Saturday with five league contests on the docket.

Multiple programs throughout the league remain unbeaten through the early portion of the fall including Findlay, Lake Erie and Malone, with wins in the past week.

Offensive Player of the Week
Madisyn Hunt
Kentucky Wesleyan
Forward
Junior
Jasper, IN (Jasper HS)

Hunt shined for an opened up Kentucky Wesleyan offense as she contributed 17 points that included eight goals and one assist. The Panthers filled up the scoreboard with 13 goals against two opponents.

After having their first game postponed and losing their second game to a tough region opponent in McKendree, this past week proved to be a bounce back stretch for the Panthers as a whole.

Hunt’s five goals against Berea is one of the finest single-game efforts throughout the league since 2012. She is just the third player to score five goals in a game, the second highest single-game output in the Great Midwest.

The overall record for goals scored in a game is 7 back in 2015 by Ohio Valley’s Andrea Ortiz-Borray.

Hunt, one of the league’s all-time leading goal scorers in her prolific career, also scored in the loss to McKendree.

Hunt has contributed to 10 of the team’s 15 goals so far this season and the Panthers will need Hunt to continue her scoring ways as they start conference play by traveling to Trevecca Nazarene to start the conference schedule on Saturday, their only match of the week.

Defensive Player of the Week
Megan Biddell
Lake Erie
Goalkeeper
Freshman
Mentor, OH (Mentor HS)

Biddell has made an immediate impact and excelled as a rookie keeper, similar to the results produced by men’s soccer defensive player of the week Andrew Boulton (Findlay), also a freshman.

The freshman keeper saved all five shots on target when the Storm traveled to Glenville State and later in the week Biddell saved another five shots against Notre Dame (OH).

Biddell has allowed zero goals in 200 minutes played this year as the Storm have outscored opponents 5-0 on the road this season.

They also remain unbeaten with a 2-0-1 record and Biddell keeping the defensive unit organized in the back is a big reason for the early success.

Lake Erie started the season with three straight road games and will make its home debut on Saturday when the Storm welcome conference opponent Ursuline to town.
