INDIANAPOLIS – Since its inception in 2013-14, Cedarville University has now been a three-time recipient of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Athletic Training Staff of the Year award for an academic year.

The league announced the Yellow Jackets as winners again at the annual Athletic Trainers Meeting in Cincinnati last week.

Presenting the award was Borden Perlman’s Tony Trombetta and the yearly honor continues to be voted upon by the athletic training group. Also representing the league office was Micaela Liddane, Great Midwest Coordinator of Championships and External Relations.

Cedarville has also won the award for the 2016-17 and 2014-15 academic years. Trevecca Nazarene (2013-14), Davis & Elkins (2015-16) and Findlay (2017-18), have all been previous award winners in the league’s history.

Wes Stephens, Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Training and Sport Performance, oversees his department that includes Kurt Beachy and Kurt Gruenberg, both assistant athletic trainers.

“Being named the G-MAC athletic training staff of the year is an honor in a conference with so many strong programs who value their student athletes and do an excellent job of caring for visiting teams,” said Stephens. “Our program's success is built on tremendous support from our administration and athletic training education program who value our work and provide daily support.

“We feel privileged to work in an environment that lets our staff focus on caring for our student-athletes and visiting teams,” he added. “We thank all the G-MAC athletic training staffs for doing a tremendous job with our athletes and recognizing us as the 2018-19 staff of the year.”
