BLUE ASH, Ohio
– At the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Spring Awards Banquet on Tuesday evening, Lake Erie College wrestling student-athlete Nick Boggs was officially introduced as the 2018-19 Male Collegiate Achievement Award winner.

Boggs accepted the fifth annual presentation of the award following an introduction speech by Lake Erie director of athletics Kelley Kish.

Representing the Storm from an administrative side was Kish, assistant athletics director/senior woman administrator Molly Hoffman and faculty athletics representative Dr. Amanda Curtis.

The Great Midwest Spring Awards Banquet was conducted at Noah’s Event Center as part of the league’s spring joint council meetings.

A native of Painesville, Boggs noted that his stellar wrestling career both started (at the age of 4) and ended in Cleveland, Ohio, where he competed at the highest level in the NCAA Division II Championships. Boggs competed on the mat since 2014 in a green and white singlet, being recruited by former head coach Kevin Hoogenboom and flourishing under the leadership of first-year head coach Jeff Breese.

Boggs, tied for third in program history with 99 wins, helped put the sport of wrestling on the map in the Great Midwest as he contributed to Lake Erie’s conference championship duals run.

It represented the first conference championship offering in the sport as Boggs went undefeated in the dual season.

As one of six NCAA qualifiers to represent the league in Cleveland, Ohio, Boggs was ranked as high as No. 7 in his 157-pound weight class and earned NCAA All-American honors in 2017 with a 5th-place finish before redshirting in 2018.

As a double Criminal Justice & Legal Studies major at LEC, Boggs has excelled off the mat as he prepares to attend Cleveland Marshall College of Law in the fall. With a 3.58 cumulative GPA, he earned well deserved NWCA Scholar-All-American honors three times throughout his career before recently graduating.

In addition, Boggs has also contributed to the community while serving on Lake Erie’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He was a second team all-conference selection in 2019 while earning athlete of the week honors from the league two times.

Boggs joins previous conference award winners from Cedarville (Marcus Reineke – 2014-15; Benjamin Tuttle – 2015-16), Trevecca Nazarene (Ben Moroney – 2016-17) and Ohio Dominican (Justin Childers – 2017-18).
