Golf Athletes of the Week (April 3)

INDIANAPOLIS – A pair of first-place individual efforts resulted in Great Midwest Athletic Conference Golf Athletes of the Week honors for Trevecca Nazarene and Tiffin as released on Wednesday.
 
TNU hosted the Music City Invitational on the men’s side while many women’s programs competed nearby at the Perry Park Spring Fling. Hillsdale (men) and Findlay (women) each won respective team titles at the events. 
 
With a 274 (-14) in the first round, the Hillsdale men posted the second-best team score for 18 holes in conference history, one stroke shy of TNU’s 273 posted at the Mississippi College Invite. 
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Ryan Rozic
Trevecca Nazarene
Junior

Rozic emerged out of a three-way playoff for medalist honors in the TNU-hosted Music City Invitational at Hermitage. 
 
The junior posted rounds of 69 and 70 to finish with a two-round total of 139 (-5) to qualify for the playoff with Hillsdale’s Josh Davenport and Northwood’s Jagger Richard. 
 
Rozic helped the Trojans finished third overall in the field as a team with a cumulative 36-hole total of 575 (-1). 
 
The 69 in the first round for Rozic matched his season-best score (also at the F&M Bank Austin Peay Intercollegiate) and he now has the top-10 finishes on the year with nine rounds of even par or better.
 
Rozic now has a season scoring average of 72.95 through 20 calculated rounds. He currently ranks fifth in the conference in scoring per 18 holes. 
 
This was Rozic’s second conference athlete of the week honor for the 2018-19 season. 
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week

Johansson’s torrid spring continued at the Perry Park Spring Fling in Kentucky with medalist honors from over 100 players in the tournament field. 
 
The freshman was tied for first overall in the player standings with a two-day total of 150 (77-73) and finished 6-over par in the tournament.
 
She shared medalist honors with McKendree’s Natasha Ainsley-Thomas.
 
Johansson helped the Dragons finish fourth overall as a team with rounds of 315 and 318 earlier this week. This was her second consecutive tournament victory after finishing on top of the field at the Saddlebrook Spring Classic.
 
Her second-round 73 (+1) equaled her best round of the season for the third time. Her updated scoring average of 77.78 is second on the team and ranks ninth in the conference. 

She has now been selected conference athlete of the week three times in 2018-19.
