LEXINGTON, Ky.
– Overcoming the rough weather, Findlay took command and celebrated back-to-back trophies at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship that ended on Saturday.

The Oilers packed a punch near the top of the individual leaderboard, featuring the medalist and runner-up finishers and the five deployed in head coach Dominic Guarnieri’s lineup were all in the top 16.

Junior Meredith Wipper fired a 1-under par 70 to finish the tournament in impressive fashion for first place. She had a three-round total of 224 (80-74-70) and carded the best second and third-round scores in the field.

She headlined the all-conference team that was announced at the awards ceremony in the University Club of Kentucky.

Joining her with status in the top five finishers (including ties) was runner-up Makenzie Torres, also from Findlay, who was five shots back of her teammate. Tying with Torres for second was Malone’s Christina Williams, who ended Friday’s soggy first round as the early leader.

Torres was the women’s medalist in 2018 at Four Bridges Country Club, UF’s first year competing as a league member.

Michele Vlacovsky finished in solo fourth to help Walsh to a third-place team finish and UF’s Samantha Hatter and Tiffin’s Emily Koehler tied for fifth overall.

The remaining four slots for the all-conference team will be voted upon by the coaches with the yearly individual award winners.

Findlay finished with a three-round score of 932 (320-312-300) and the final-round of 18 pretty much mirrored the program’s scoring average for the 2018-19 season.

The Oilers were followed by tournament runner-up Tiffin and the Dragons finished strong thanks to Koehler’s final round of 76 and contributions from athletes of the week winners Alice Putoud and Amanda Johansson.

Also aiding Findlay’s championship run was sophomore Kristina Kniesly, last year’s conference freshman of the year. Kniesly tied for 10th and freshman Jill Schmitmeyer tied for 16th in her first postseason experience in the conference championship format.

The NCAA DII Women’s Golf Championship field for the East Regional will be unveiled next Monday the 29th. Findlay is currently ranked second in the East Region and Tiffin is slotted in sixth.
