INDIANAPOLIS – Findlay and Cedarville picked up Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week honors as announced on Tuesday.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Xavier Marable
Findlay
Sprints
Freshman
Clayton, OH (Northmont HS)
The weather was warm in the Sunshine State and the speedy freshman took advantage at the Florida Relays as he established two different conference records.
Marable was flying around the track in the 400-meter dash and as a member of the Oilers’ 4x100 relay squad.
Marable provisionally qualified for nationals with a time of 47.63 in the 400, breaking former UF star George Effah’s record of 47.78 at the Jesse Owens Classic last season.
His 400-meter time currently ranks 11th among all runners in Division II for the season.
The UF 4x100 relay unit of Marable, Lenell Shelby III, Jaye Williams and Zack Jellison, clocked a 41.39. That officially breaks the 42.02 previously recorded by Hillsdale earlier this spring at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invitational.
Marable is coming off a very impressive indoor campaign in which he was an All-American in the 400 and was named the Great Midwest Track Athlete/Freshman of the Year and Freshman of the Meet at the conference championships.
