INDIANAPOLIS – Walsh and Hillsdale collected Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week honors as announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The conference outdoor meet will be conducted at Hillsdale in early May as individuals continue to push for nationals as provisional and auto qualifiers in their respective events.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Lane Knoch
Walsh
Sprints/Hurdles
Sophomore
Hartville, OH (Marlington HS)
Knoch excelled at the Walsh Invitational while competing in the 110-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and in the 4x100-meter relay.
Knoch provisionally qualified for nationals in the 400 hurdles and currently ranks No. 21 across Division II in the event.
The top-10 list in the 400 hurdles is a tough one to crack with Malone’s Ashton Dulin and Findlay’s Lenell Shelby III heavily featured. Knoch was close to breaking through with a time of 53 seconds flat to beat the field of 21 total runners.
He helped his 4x100 relay unit finish third with a time of 42.82. Knoch also had top-eight placement in the 110 hurdles.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jared Schipper
Hillsdale
Pole Vault/Multis
Senior
Leo, IN (Bishop Dwenger HS)
Schipper skied to new heights and a new conference record in the pole vault at the Hillsdale Invitational over the weekend.
The senior is now No. 1 in the Division II with a clearance of 5.40 meters (17’ 8.5”) to pass Cedarville All-American sophomore Tommy Ansiel.
Schipper cleared the record-breaking height on his 11th and final attempt, incrementally passing tests of 5.20 and 5.30m along the way.
His new career-best height is an automatic-qualifying mark for nationals in Texas later this spring.
