Softball Players of the Week (April 15)

INDIANAPOLIS – Trevecca Nazarene and Malone earned respective Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Players of the Week selections as announced on Monday afternoon. 
 
Ohio Dominican still leads the league standings despite an uncharacteristic stretch and the margin at the top is starting to shrink.  
 
Trevecca Nazarene is close behind in second while Tiffin and Cedarville are also closing in with double-digit league victory totals with a handful of games left in the regular season. 
 
Player of the Week

Seitz and the Trojans are currently on a five-game winning streak after a 5-1 week which included sweeps of conference-leading Ohio Dominican as well as Ohio Valley. 
 
The sophomore went 11-for-17 at the plate with a .647 batting average. Seitz had six extra-base hits including a three-home run effort in the same day against OVU on Friday.
 
Seitz had nine RBI, scored nine runs, had four total home runs with a .647 on-base percentage and a 1.471 slugging percentage for the week.
 
The Milford, Ohio native went a perfect 4-for-4 with doubles and a home run in game two against Ohio Valley. In the first game, she was 3-for-4 and have five RBIs with two home runs.
The weekly conference honor is the first of Seitz’ career who now has hit safely in the last four games.
 
In 79 at-bats, Seitz a now hitting at a .329 clip with nine doubles which is second best on the team.
 
Pitcher of the Week

Byers was in ace form as the Pioneers went 3-1 over the past week against Findlay and Davis & Elkins, while appearing in all four contests.
 
The freshman carried an impressive 1.04 ERA in 27 innings pitched while recording 20 strikeouts. 
 
She fired a one-hit shutout in the opening game against D&E while fanning six. Byers also went the distance in close one-run winning decisions against Findlay. 
 
Byers ended her strong weekend with an extra-innings effort with seven strikeouts. In 23 games, Byers is now 15-6 overall with a 2.52 ERA and a conference-leading 121 strikeouts. 
 
Byers and her sister, Bailey, now have both been selected for conference weekly honors in their first years playing for Malone this spring.
