FINDLAY, Ohio – Findlay and Walsh will lay it all on the line in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championship final after winning respective semifinal matches in Croy Gymnasium on Friday evening.

The stars were out in full force with plenty of all-conference talent displaying their skills in front of the fans.

Top seed and regular-season champion Findlay was able to grind past No. 4 Cedarville and No. 2 Walsh joined its women’s program playing for a championship trophy by taking down third seed Hillsdale.

Both games were about as close as it gets in a playoff setting, adding more intrigue to set up another conference championship matchup.

Findlay and Walsh will tip at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday to play for the league’s automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional.

Great Midwest Player of the Year Alex White carved out a game-high 32 points and connected on six three-point tries. White received all awards possible at the championship banquet on Thursday additionally being named to the all-conference first team and inaugural all-defense team.

The Oilers stormed to their 27th win of the season and are a lock for the Midwest Regional field no matter the outcome on Saturday.

For Cedarville, a young group that made strides and challenged one of the nation’s best has so much to look forward to in the future. Sophomore first team all-conference forward Conner TenHove made giant leaps in his progression while freshman guard Quinton Green’s athleticism is highlight reel worthy.

Green led the Yellow Jackets with 24 points in 7-of-11 shooting.

In the nightcap, Great Midwest Freshman of the Year JT Shumate of Walsh was a driving force against a sound, defensive-minded Hillsdale squad that played for the title a year ago.

For each team, it was hard to get separation as the largest lead for either squad was just eight points. The Cavaliers did shoot about 10 percent better from the field

RS junior forward Sterling Christy added 16 points and six boards. Walsh held a three-point lead at halftime and led wire-to-wire in this one, fending off the Chargers at every junction down the stretch.

For one day, Walsh was Hillsdale’s achilles heel as the Chargers women were also defeated in semifinal action.
