2018-19 Men's Basketball All-Conference Team



FINDLAY, Ohio 
– With the final four playoff teams in attendance, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball All-Conference Team was announced on Thusrday before the championship semifinals. 
 
Findlay is serving as host for the last three games of the Great Midwest Championship in Croy Gymnasium starting with semifinals on Friday. The Oilers officially accepted their regular-season championship trophy, making it back-to-back years the program has been outright champs. 
 
The league’s head coaches cast their vote and determined the all-conference team, consisting of a first team, second team, all-defense team and individual award winners. 
 
The Great Midwest Player of the Year was Findlay senior forward Alex White. He was a three-time conference athlete of the week selection while finishing third in scoring (18.4 ppg) and fourth in rebounding (8.8).
 
White was also second in blocked shots, third in field goal percentage and was seventh among all qualified players in free throw percentage. He also gives the Oilers’ program their second straight player the year following the nod to Taren Sullivan in 2018. 
 
White finished with a triple crown of postseason accolades, taking home player of the year, first team all-conference and the all-defense team plaques. 
 
Repeating as Great Midwest Coach of the Year was Findlay’s Charlie Ernst, as he has the Oilers rolling ranked sixth in the nation, No. 3 in he Midwest Region and primed to compete for a deep postseason run. 
 
Ernst and the Oilers are on a 12-game win streak and are 25-3 overall going into Friday’s semifinals.
 
The Great Midwest Freshman of the Year honor went to Walsh’s JT Shumate, who along with White, was a three-time conference player of the week. Shumate had an impressive rookie season for the No. 2 seeded Cavaliers as he tied for the league lead in scoring. 
 
Shumate also pulled down over six rebounds per game and was fourth in field percentage. He also was a standout on the defensive end of the floor with 1.4 blocks per game, another top five mark among all conference players. 
 
The first and second teams consisted of 10 student-athletes on each list while the all-defense team, a brand new unit, was introduced for the first time to honor the top defenders in the conference.
