INDIANAPOLIS
– With the 2018-19 season officially closed, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference All-Conference Swimming & Diving selections were announced on Thursday afternoon.

The NCAA Championships saw one member institution represented as Tiffin one sent student-athlete (Nicholas Jefferson) to Indianapolis to compete at the highest level.

In addition to awards handed out at the second annual Great Midwest/Mountain East Swimming & Diving Championships in Canton, each league presented all-conference honors based on order of finish.

Thirty-six different men’s swimmers and divers comprised the first team and the honorable mention team.

The Great Midwest Men’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year was awarded to Tiffin rookie Miguel Garcia Arroyo.

Garcia Arroyo was dominant in the pool during his first conference championships appearance, winning four individual events and one relay race. He also broke meet records in his first attempt in the 200 IM and 400 IM.

He had also won athlete of the meet and freshman of the meet awards at the conference championships, making it an individual sweep for the standout Dragon from Seville, Spain.

Findlay’s Andrew Makepeace was tagged as the Great Midwest Coach of the Year after leading the Oilers to back-to-back men’s titles. The Oilers’ women and men have won all possible team titles thus far in the short conference championship history.

Nine of the 16 first-team all-conference selections were from Findlay, and out of the group, only two were seniors (Conner Whitaker, Trae Gulgin).

Led by Garcia Arroyo and NCAA qualifier Nicholas Jefferson, Tiffin had six make the first-team list.

Davis & Elkins’ sophomore Pedro Gaspar helped split up the Oilers and Dragons’ dominance with a first team all-conference selection.
