LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the third time in the spring already, a Great Midwest Athletic Conference softball student-athlete has been named the Division II Player of the Week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
Ohio Dominican’s Kelly Mix earned the prestigious national selection by the organization after Trevecca Nazarene’s Mary Collins and Malone’s Bailey Byers have each been previous recipients.
As a tandem, Mix was selected for national honors along with DII Pitcher of the Week Mackenzie Ward from Minnesota State for games played March 18-24.
Mix played a significant role in aher squad’s 8-0 week in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The senior from Baltimore, Ohio hit .524 (11-for-21) with three doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI.
She scored eight times, slugged 1.095, recorded a .615 on-base percentage and did not strikeout in 27 plate appearances. Mix registered five multi-RBI and four-multi-hit contests which included a 3-for-4 performance with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in game two at Tiffin.
The reigning Great Midwest Player of the Week homered and drove in three runs against Cedarville and Hillsdale, respectively. Mix also left the yard in game two versus Findlay.
