ROMEOVILLE, Ill.
– Findlay and Walsh are set to represent the Great Midwest Athletic Conference in the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship Midwest Regional that tips off on Saturday.

Lewis University and Neil Carey Arena will serve as the host for the eight-team bracket with games at noon, 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., all in the Central Time Zone.

Findlay is the No. 3 seed as an at-large selection while Walsh earned the conference’s automatic qualifier bid and is the No. 7 seed.

Findlay faces No. 6 Drury in the first game at noon and Walsh follows immediately after vs. No. 2 Bellarmine with the 2:30 p.m. scheduled start.

As the conference regular-season champion and top overall seed in the Great Midwest Championship bracket, Findlay was still positioned very well despite a loss in the tournament final.

The non-conference slate for the Oilers (27-4 overall) included five straight region wins to start the season, including a victory over defending national champ Ferris State. Findlay proved it could hang with top seed Lewis in a three-point defeat back on Dec. 19.

The Oilers feature Great Midwest and D2CCA Midwest Region Player of the Year Alex White as the primary weapon on offense. White was a first team all-conference pick and all-defensive team selection.

Drury felt to Bellarmine in the Great Lakes Valley Conference title game, 65-48. The Panthers had toppled Lewis in overtime in the conference semifinals.

Walsh’s postseason momentum is peaking after outlasting Findlay in overtime to celebrate the conference championship.

The Cavaliers’ quarterfinal test is a formidable one against a Bellarmine team that had been top ranked in the region rankings before Selection Sunday. Under head coach Jeff Young, Walsh has reeled off 13 consecutive wins and is currently 24-7 overall.

Great Midwest Freshman of the Year JT Shumate will look to continue his stellar play while active forward Sterling Christy, fresh off the conference single-game record for blocks (9), will try to wreak more havoc against the Knights.

Other first-round regional games include No. 1 Lewis vs. No. 8 Grand Valley State at 5 p.m. and No. 4 Southern Indiana vs. No. 5 Ashland in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m.

All tournament games will be streamed live on the GLVC Sports Network.
