INDIANAPOLIS – The final selection of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week honors for the 2018-19 season was announced on Monday.

The final award went to tournament champion Walsh, which qualified for the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional bracket along with Findlay to represent the league.

Walsh and Findlay are headed to Romeoville, Ill., for their first-round contests on Saturday against Bellarmine and Drury, both opponents from the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Christy’s bullish play and tenacity on the glass helped the No. 2 seeded Cavaliers emerge as conference tournament champs following a 3-0 week.

Walsh’s road to the top wasn’t easy as it dealt with No. 7 Malone in the quarterfinals, No. 3 Hillsdale in the semis and No. 1 Findlay in Saturday’s championship clash.

Christy averaged 13 points and almost 14 rebounds per game while producing a single-game conference record in blocked shots to make an impact on the defensive end.

The junior forward came up with 15 points and 20 rebounds in the first playoff game against Malone. He played 35 minutes and was 7-of-14 from the field.

In the second round he was efficient again, missing just three of his nine shot attempts to finish with 16 points and six boards.

In overtime, Christy was one block away from a rare triple-double as he ended with 10 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocks in the box score.

The nine blocks best the previous conference record of eight, including two times in 2017-18 by Kentucky Wesleyan’s Dakota Quinn.

In 108 minutes, Christy was 18-of-29 from the field (.621) and also pocketed 1.3 steals per game.
