INDIANAPOLIS – With a lofty national ranking and on the verge of potentially breaking another single-season scoring record, Findlay was at the top of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour. 
 
The Oilers were a unanimous pick by the league’s coaches, receiving all possible 10 first-place votes (since schools cannot vote for themselves) for a grand total of 100 points. 
 
Findlay’s showing in 2018, its first year with the Great Midwest, was impressive to say the least. The Oilers dominated the conference tournament at Four Bridges Country Club and went on to qualify and finish fourth in the NCAA East Regional. 
 
Senior Makenzie Torres went on to qualify as an individual for the NCAA Championship in Houston, Texas, where she finished 30th in a very talented field. 
 
Fast forward to 2018-19 and Findlay is positioned well to repeat the program’s success. UF is ranked eighth in the DII Coaches Poll by the WGCA and currently features four of the league’s top five scorers. 
 
Kristina Kniesly (74.5), Torres (74.7), Samantha Hatter (75.6) and Meredith Wipper (75.6) are all ranked in the order for 18-hole scoring through the fall portion of the season. 
 
The Oilers’ 298.7 team scoring average through 13 rounds is also tops in the league. For comparison, UF’s team score average from a year ago was 308.5.
 
First-year conference member Tiffin has already made an impact in women’s golf with multiple athletes of the week honors (Alice Putoud, Amanda Johansson). The Dragons received one first-place vote in the balloting and were the runner-up in the preseason poll. 
 
Trevecca Nazarene was polled third followed by Ohio Dominican and Walsh, to round out the top five. Malone and Alderson Broaddus came in at sixth and seventh followed by Ursuline, Ohio Valley, Kentucky Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins. 
 
Eleven schools from the conference were ranked going into the spring. This year’s Great Midwest Championship will be conducted in Lexington, Ky., at the University Club of Kentucky.
