INDIANAPOLIS – The league championship is still up for grabs as the season heads to Week 10 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference football schedule.
Tiffin (7-1 overall) is running the table at 5-0, but Findlay, Ohio Dominican and Hillsdale, are waiting in the wings hoping the Dragons will stumble along the way. TU finally cracked the national rankings at No. 25 and has won six straight.
The Great Midwest had two programs in the Super Region 1 rankings for the second week in a row as Tiffin and Ohio Dominican remained in a holding pattern at No. 9 and No. 10.
In other football-related news, the Great Midwest also released a scheduling alliance with the Great Lakes Valley Conference for the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
The defending conference champion Chargers from Hillsdale have an opportunity to throw a wrench into the standings by making the trip to Frost-Kalnow Stadium to face Tiffin. The Dragons offense has been virtually unstoppable and QB Nick Watson has been like Michael Vick on cheat mode in Madden with some his numbers.
It’s a big two-game stretch for the Dragons as they end the regular season with Hillsdale and at Findlay while making a push for the NCAA Championship bracket, the conference title and/or a bid to the America’s Crossroads Bowl in Hobart, Ind.
Hillsdale’s defense will look to make a stand and get into the backfield – DL Kyle Parran and LB Dan Shanley have both tied the single-game sack record for consecutive weeks.
With a noon kickoff at Donnell Stadium, Findlay hosts Ashland in a series rivalry renewed. Both teams were getting attention early in the year in the national poll and each program has had a tough schedule to get to this point. UF certainly feels like it could have beaten No. 2 Ferris State and No. 6 Notre Dame (OH) when reflecting back on the regular season.
UF QB Matt Winzeler continues to run the offense with precision, posting one of the league’s top 10 best pass efficiency ratings for a single game with 4 TD’s vs. no INT’s in Week 9 against Lake Erie.
After getting beat by Findlay, Lake Erie is looking to regroup against Ohio Dominican as the Panthers were idle in Week 9.
Kentucky Wesleyan is on the road at Frostburg State, a provisional DII member with a strong record if eligible for the postseason. The Panthers played Walsh tough down the stretch and are still looking to give head coach Craig Yeast his first victory on the sidelines this season.
Alderson Broaddus is also still seeking its first win of 2019 and the Battlers will play host to Walsh on Saturday. Walsh RB Koby Adu-Poku flashed his running, receiving and returning ability in Week 9 to earn conference player of the week status.
AB’s Dominic Pegley was on the end of a 91-yard receiving touchdown vs. Hillsdale last week, officially the second-longest pass play in conference history.
With the exception of Findlay's noon start time, all other four contests are scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff.
