INDIANAPOLIS – The brand new season is underway as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Wrestling Athlete of the Week honors rolled out with the first selection on Wednesday.
 
Tiffin, the league’s preseason coaches poll favorite, is ranked 16th nationally in the first NWCA Coaches Poll.
 
A handful of Great Midwest grapplers are also ranked in their respective weight classes, headlined by returning 197 pound national champion Nick Mason of Tiffin.
 
Also ranked is Tiffin’s Bryan LaVearn (No. 12 at 157 lb.), Findlay’s Nate Vandermeer (No. 10 at 165 lb.) and Alderson Broaddus’ Gino Sita (No. 8 at 184 lb.).

The Oilers competed at the Michigan State Open along with No. 16 Tiffin to start the season and Yuhas acquitted himself quite well in his first action of the year.
 
Yuhas placed fourth at the 197 lb. weight class while defeating a pair of Division I opponents from Illinois and Central Michigan.
 
He accounted for 10 points as he pinned Richard Ryu from Illinois in 39 seconds and went on to record a decision vs. Cade Dallwitz from the Chippewas in the consolation semis.
 
Yuhas also went up against competitors from Pitt and Ohio State in East Lansing, Mich.
 
Yuhas started his career in the 184 pound weight class before getting the bump up for his sophomore campaign.
