Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (Nov. 5)

11.5.19

INDIANAPOLIS – Coming down the straightaway of the regular season, many questions still remain as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week honors were announced Tuesday morning.

Findlay was knocked off from the unbeaten ranks by Walsh and the No. 21 Oilers had to delay their potential celebration as regular season champions.

Findlay was ranked No. 2 in the Midwest Region as Walsh and Cedarville also made it in at No. 8 and 10, respectively.

The final games of the regular season will be played on Tuesday. The eight-team playoff field will be announced after the final game along with start times and the official championship bracket.

Findlay, Cedarville, Walsh and Ohio Dominican, will host first-round quarterfinal matchups on Saturday, Nov. 9, while the final four advancing teams will play for the conference tournament title in Dayton, Ohio on Nov. 14-16 of next week.

Offensive Player of the Week
Olivia Hoffman
Cedarville
Forward
Sophomore
Chattanooga, TN (Chattanooga Christian HS)

The Hoffman athleticism runs through the family as one sister, Leah, was a former Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Year for Trevecca in women’s soccer, and Sarah, is an All-American on the Cedarville track & field program.

Another one of her older siblings, Anna, also suited up for the Trojans of TNU in women’s soccer.

Olivia, the youngest of them all, is finding her own time to shine as the Yellow Jackets make a playoff push to get ready for the Great Midwest Championship tournament.

Hoffman had a direct contribution in three of her team’s four goals scored over the past week, both opponents projected to make the playoff field. Cedarville beat Trevecca in double overtime at Wright State while also taking care of business in a 3-0 verdict vs. Kentucky Wesleyan.

Hoffman drilled the game-winning shot in the 103rd minute to lift the regionally-ranked Yellow Jackets to their 10th win of the season. In the team’s 10th conference victory, Hoffman delivered a second-half goal and assisted on the game winner in the eighth minute.

Defensive Player of the Week
Allison Garlock
Cedarville
Goalkeeper
Senior
Lebanon, OH (Lebanon HS)

Garlock was on the reverse end of preserving Cedarville’s sixth and seventh consecutive victories, making eight combined saves vs. TNU and KWC.

The senior stopper is now up to 20 career shutouts as she had a clean sheet vs. KWC for her eighth of the season.

The Cedarville defense deserves plenty of credit for slowing down two strong offenses, including the leading point scorer in the league from Kentucky Wesleyan.

Garlock now ranks second in the conference in goals against average (.646) and is also second in save percentage. She is making 4.63 saves per game for Cedarville.

This is her fifth career conference weekly honor for her defensive efforts.

Cedarville has now won seven straight games as it wraps up the regular season on the road at Ohio Dominican this evening.
