INDIANAPOLIS – The four Great Midwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer qualifiers for the NCAA Championship Super Region 3 bracket all competed in the second round on Saturday at various sites.

It was No. 5 seed Ohio Valley that was able to advance and move into the Super Region 3 semifinals and the Sweet 16 with a Sunday win vs. No. 4 McKendree.

The Fighting Scots will face No. 8 seed UIndy in the next round on Friday, Dec. 6, in Louisville, Ky., at 3 p.m. ET. The host institution will be Bellarmine University.

Three teams saw their season and playoff runs come to an end. Conference tournament champion Tiffin, the No. 6 seed in Super Region 3, fell to No. 3 Maryville, 1-0.

After moving out of the first round against No. 10 Wisconsin-Parkside in a shootout, No. 7 Cedarville fell just shy of knocking off the No. 2 seed Bellarmine, a finish that resulted in another set of PK’s.

Neither team was able to score in regulation and while both sides had relatively good looks in the overtime periods, but couldn’t drive home a golden goal. The Knights converted four consecutive PK’s in the shootout and Cedarville was just unable to keep pace.

The Yellow Jackets closed out the 2019 season with a 12-3-8 overall record.

Top seed Lake Erie, hosting at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, was defeated by UIndy after the Greyhounds won their first-round contest vs. No. 9 Fort Hays State.

The Storm just couldn’t get tracked offensively against UIndy and the Greyhounds had early momentum off a set piece in the fifth minute of play.

Both teams combined for just 15 shots in regulation, but UIndy also was able to put another goal away early in the second half.

Lake Erie concludes its 2019 season with an 18-3-0 overall record which included the Great Midwest regular season conference title and all four major individual awards for the all-conference team.

Ohio Valley had a first-round bye and the championship experience that the program had during a 2018 run to the Midwest Region title played a factor in surviving and advancing. The Fighting Scots scored at almost the exact same spots that UIndy did vs. Lake Erie.

David Bercedo and Carlos Barcia put away the goals for Ohio Valley vs. the Bearcats, runner-up in the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament.

Another defensive struggle unfolded between Tiffin and Maryville. The Dragons and Saints combined for just 14 shots total and Maryville scored the game’s lone goal in the 29th minute.

Tiffin ended the 2019 season with an 11-5-5 overall record.
