Official NCAA Announcement / Selection Show
INDIANAPOLIS – Great Midwest Athletic Conference champion Tiffin was slotted in Super Region 1 as the NCAA Division II Football Championship bracket was released on Sunday night during the selection show.
The Dragons, ranked 21st nationally in the AFCA Poll, are officially in the field of 28 after winning the conference title outright on Saturday.
A kickoff is still to be determined at the time of release.
Tiffin completed a perfect regular season run in the Great Midwest standings under first-year head coach Cris Reisert, culminating with a 52-47 victory on the road at Findlay before the playoff selection show.
The Dragons were ranked ninth, eighth and now, seventh in Super Region 1. Tiffin will travel to face No. 2 seed Kutztown from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference next Saturday for a first-round game.
The Great Midwest has fared very well in first-round playoff matchups as Findlay (No. 7) seed eliminated No. 2 Shepherd in 2017 and Hillsdale (No. 5) knocked off No. 4 Kutztown just a year ago.
Twelve first-round games will be conducted on the campus of one of the competing institutions. In addition, one team per super regional has earned a first-round bye. The first-round winners will all advance to the second round with games on the campus of one of the competing institutions. Second-round winners will meet in the quarterfinals at various campus sites. Quarterfinal winners will advance to play in the semifinals on the campus of one of the competing institutions. Seven teams selected per super regional make up the field of 28 teams.
There is no automatic qualifying bid for the NCAA Championship bracket in football. All bids are earned access as determined by the national selection committee.
This is Tiffin’s second year as a Great Midwest member institution. Super Region 1 consisted of playoff teams from the Great Midwest, PSAC, Mountain East Conference and the Northeast-10 Conference.
