2019 Women's Soccer All-Conference Team
DAYTON, Ohio – Talented student-athletes from all institutions were recognized as part of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer All-Conference Team that was announced on Wednesday night.
With the final four teams of the Great Midwest Championship tournament in attendance, individual award winners were announced as well as the first, second and honorable mention teams, as voted by the coaches.
The Great Midwest Championship resumes tomorrow as No. 2 Walsh takes on No. 3 Cedarville in the early game starting at noon ET at Roger Glass Stadium. Top seeded Findlay faces No. 4 Ohio Dominican in the afternoon matinee starting around 2:30 p.m.
The tournament is being conducted at Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School.
Findlay led all teams with eight all-conference selections and the Oilers celebrated their regular season championship trophy. Earlier today, it was revealed Findlay was No. 2 in the Midwest Region rankings for the third time in a row, virtually locking down a national championship bid with a win or loss in the conference tournament semifinals.
The coaches recognized one of their own as second-year leader Jimmy Walker guided the 2019 UF program to a 14-1-1 overall record. Walker was named Great Midwest Coach of the Year as his team reaped the rewards for a special season.
Leading the way was first-team selection Lindsey Ahbe, Jayla Campbell and Sierra Peacock, who have each been conference players of the week at some point this season.
Campbell starred as a rookie for Findlay and earned the coveted title of Great Midwest Freshman of the Year. The talented mid has 21 points (9 G, 3 A) at this juncture in her first collegiate season.
Cedarville’s defense has pitched nine shutouts on its way to a 12-win season so far. The Yellow Jackets’ senior standout Bex Velloney was announced as the Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Year.
Cedarville is still ranked No. 10 in the Midwest Region and would most likely require an AQ as the winner of the tournament to get to the NCAA Championship field. The Yellow Jackets and Ohio Dominican and Walsh, each placed five different names on the all-conference team.
Walsh moved up in the regional rankings for the second straight week, going from No. 5 to No. 4. The Cavaliers have positioned themselves well to return to the national tournament after scoring a first-round victory in 2018 as an at-large selection.
With Kentucky Wesleyan exiting the first round of the conference tournament, the Panthers still received great recognition in the form of Madisyn Hunt tabbed Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Year.
Hunt’s record-breaking season included 22 goals and seven assists and she led the league with 2.83 points per game.
The league's future is very bright. Campbell was the lone freshman on the first taem but the second team had seven underclassmen, including six sophomores whose names fans will probably see on the list for the next few years to come.
