Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (Nov. 12)

11.12.19

INDIANAPOLIS – Advancing playoff teams Walsh and Findlay shared Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week honors as announced on Tuesday.

The top four seeds in the eight-team bracket each moved from respective quarterfinal games on Saturday.

Top seeded Findlay beat No. 8 Malone, No. 2 seed Walsh blanked No. 7 Kentucky Wesleyan, No. 3 Cedarville toppled No. 6 Ursuline and No. 4 Ohio Dominican tied No. 5 Trevecca before advancing on PK’s in a shootout.

The regular season champion Oilers are regionally ranked in the Midwest at No. 2 while Walsh made gains to be at No. 5 and Cedarville is still in the mix at No. 10.

Offensive Player of the Week
Olivia Peters
Walsh
Forward
Senior
Glenview, IL (Glenbrook South HS)

Peters had a huge week with three goals in two games for the Cavaliers as the regular season ended and the playoffs started.

In both games, the senior forward had scores of the game-winning variety, lifting her team to victory over rival Malone and in the postseason vs. Kentucky Wesleyan.

Peters scored in the early and late stages for Walsh to end the regular season on a high note. Her first goal came in just the third minute play and she gave her team a 2-0 lead with about six minutes left on the clock.

Peters finished with five shots, all five on target.

It took a little bit longer for the offense to get going on Saturday, but Peters broke through the Panthers’ defense for the game’s lone goal in the 79th minute.

Eight of her team best 10 goals have been game winners, a sign of her ability to really deliver in the clutch. She ranks third in the league in points (26) and is tied for fourth in goals.

Defensive Player of the Week
Anna Money
Findlay
Goalkeeper
Senior
Dayton, OH (Chaminade Julienne HS)

Despite a brief stay in the United Soccer National Rankings, the Oilers are still among the nation’s best and their 14-1-1 overall record matches up well vs. just about anyone.

Money should feel right at home returning to Chaminade Julienne High School, where she completed her prep career.

Money and the Oilers blanked Tiffin to end the regular season and held Malone off the scoreboard in the conference tournament, both by 3-0 decisions.

It was Findlay’s 10th and 11th shutouts of the season as the team prepares for No. 4 Ohio Dominican on Thursday.

Money has seen the lion’s share of minutes in a platoon between the pipes with Nicole Burke as the pair have combined to give up just six goals all season.
