Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (Oct. 8)

10.8.19

INDIANAPOLIS – After pitching a pair of shutouts, Findlay earned each of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week awards as announced on Tuesday morning.

The Oilers are one of two teams unbeaten in the league standings. At 4-0-1, UF joins preseason favorite Walsh (4-0-0) at the top in terms of winning percentage.

Offensive Player of the Week
Sierra Peacock
Findlay
Midfield
Senior
Beavercreek, OH (Beavercreek HS)

As top five in the conference in both goals and points, Peacock has established herself among the top offensive contributors for a viable conference contender this fall.

The senior missed the 2018 campaign with injuries but hasn’t skipped a beat on the field since she led the Oilers in goals during the 2017 season, Findlay’s first year as a conference member institution.

The Oilers methodically held Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene off the scoreboard over the past week as Peacock accounted for seven points with three goals and one assist.

After a scoreless first half, she capped a flurry of offense for the Oilers with the team’s third goal in a five-minute span. She was assisted by last week’s offensive player of the week, teammate and freshman Jayla Campbell.

Peacock did more of the same damage, accounting for both goals against TNU, including punching home her second game winner of the season.

Peacock now has five goals and two assists for 12 points through seven games this season. The Oilers have won four straight going into the new week.

Defensive Player of the Week
Lindsey Ahbe
Findlay
Defense
Junior
Green, OH (Green HS)

On the other end of the field, the defense stood tall and did its part as Findlay outscored two league opponents by a combined score of 8-0. Ahbe's effort played a big role as she earned her second career conference defensive weekly honor.

The junior had two shots of her own this week and the UF defense limited Trevecca and Kentucky Wesleyan to only 11 combined shots. Out of those 11 shots, seven of them were on target.

Ahbe and the Findlay defense have been stellar this season only allowing two goals in seven games. That is .28 goals allowed per game and the offense is scoring 2.43 goals per game, a plus two goal differential per game.

The Oilers are now on a four-game win streak and find themselves at 4-0-1 in conference play. They also find themselves a very close second in the conference behind Walsh.

Findlay stays home for their next two games as Cedarville and Ohio Dominican come to town on Thursday and Sunday.
