LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sixty-three individuals from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference contributed to record-breaking statistics for the 2018-19 Easton/NFCA All-American Scholar-Athletes announced earlier this month.
Six different conference member institutions were mentioned in the total list, which topped 8,000 student-athletes across the country. The NFCA also released its top 10 Academic Team rankings for the 2018-19 year.
The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association’s membership categories. NCAA Division III led the way with 1,928 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2018-19. NCAA Division I and Division II followed with 1,769 and 1,306 honorees. High School weighted and High School unweighted earned 1,225 and 793 distinctions. NAIA and two-year programs each amassed 570 recipients.
Trevecca Nazarene’s roster was a very impressive 11th in total GPA (out of 87 programs with a 3.0 GPA or higher) for Division II with a collaborative effort of 3.620. The Trojans, coached by Ben Tyree, had a total of 12 NFCA All-American Scholar-Athletes.
Findlay led all conference teams with 19 student-athletes receiving the academic award. Tiffin had 11 recognized, Kentucky Wesleyan had eight mentioned and six more from Ursuline were listed for their work in the classroom.
Tiffin’s team GPA ranked tied for 35th with a 3.50. Both Findlay and Kentucky Wesleyan ranked in the top 50 among the nation’s best team GPA’s at 40th and 45th, respectively.
Ursuline also had a team GPA over 3.0 and almost made the top 50, sitting at 51st with a 3.446.
