Men’s Soccer Players of the Week (Oct. 7)

10.7.19

INDIANAPOLIS – Two programs with recognition in the national rankings shared Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Players of the Week awards as announced on Monday afternoon.

Lake Erie’s scintillating start to the season moved to 10 consecutive victories after beating Malone and Walsh. The Storm are ranked ninth in the country and at 6-0-0 in the league standings, have opened up a five-point lead over current runner-up Tiffin.

Tiffin is also coming off a pair of wins as the Dragons blanked a pair of opponents to improve to 6-1-2. Ohio Valley and Alderson Broaddus are both tied for third with 10 conference points each.

Offensive Player of the Week
Jonathon Carr
Lake Erie
Midfield
Senior
Sunderland, England (Harlepool)

It has been quite the ride for Carr and the Storm as the program has risen to new heights with the help of his play and leadership and team captain.

The senior from England contributed seven points to the team with three goals and one assist over two games as the Storm remain undefeated on the season.

With LEC developing a reputation for its defensive prowess, the Storm opened things up offensively against Malone.

Carr also provided both game-winning goals for the Storm as they defeated conference opponents Malone and Walsh, which came into Sunday’s meeting with a 6-1-1 record.

Carr has helped the Storm’s offense this season as the team has 22 assists on 23 goals scored while also having 63 shots on target. He ranks tied for second in the league with six goals and is also tied for second in assists with four.

Defensive Player of the Week
Joel Daly
Tiffin
Defense
Sophomore
Brighton, U.K. (Dorothy Stringer HS)

Daly helped the Dragons play a suffocating 180 minutes of defensive ball as the program pitched back-to-back shutouts in conference action.

Daly contributed two of the 14 goals scored by the Dragons during the week from the defensive position. Daly also only had two shots total, so he converted on both of his attempts from the pitch during the week.

The sophomore helped the Dragons pick up two shutouts and held their opponents to five total shots on goal and not allowing a shot on goal against Kentucky Wesleyan.

The Dragons have had seven shutouts in nine games this season, while allowing .32 goals per game.

Tiffin, which received votes in last week’s United Soccer Coaches Poll, has two more home games this week as they welcome Ohio Dominican and Cedarville to town on Thursday and Saturday.
