INDIANAPOLIS – The first pairing of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week was announced on Wednesday as the season is underway for most teams.
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Isaac Stretch
Findlay
Senior
Grove City, OH (Grove City HS)
Stretch has been a key piece of the equation for the Oilers as they have captured back-to-back men’s titles at the G-MAC/MEC Championships in Canton.
As a sophomore, he helped Findlay win four different events and last year as a junior, he was an all-conference performer contributing to wins in the 200 free and medley relays.
He is off to a good start in his senior season as the Oilers battled Saginaw Valley State. Despite a 169-124 team score in favor of SVSU (men), Findlay still won its fair share of events in both the men’s and women’s competition.
Stretch was a part of the winning 400 medley relay foursome with Jaegar Loran, Colin Martin and Trent Williams as they had a time of 3:30.93.
He also won the 100 breaststroke by almost two full seconds in a time of 58.30, not far away from the NCAA B standard of 55.56.
Women’s Athlete of the Week
Leah Tunney
Hillsdale
Freshman
Mequon, WI (Homestead HS)
Tunney made a splash early in her collegiate career for the Chargers as they took on Grand Valley State and Calvin College over the past week.
The true freshman finished runner-up in three different events, all while approaching the NCAA B qualifying standard in them.
Tunney was second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.53, second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59:30 and second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:33.04.
She was less than three second away from the NCAA B standard in the 100 backstroke and only nine seconds away from the B standard in the 1000 freestyle.
Hillsdale would end up beating Calvin while Grand Valley State was able to win the team scoring portion of the competition.
