INDIANAPOLIS – The current leader of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference standings was recognized among the nation’s best as Findlay appeared in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll on Tuesday.
The Oilers are now ranked 23rd with a 9-0-1 overall record and have a 7-0-1 league mark in conference games for a .938 win percentage.
Most recently, Findlay blanked Alderson Broaddus in the past week of competition to officially earn a place in the Great Midwest Championship tournament.
The Oilers are positioned very well to host a first-round playoff game at DeHaven Field with aspirations to move on to the final four remaining in Dayton for a neutral site finish at Chaminade-Julienne HS.
Findlay’s defense under head coach Jimmy Walker has been near impenetrable. The Oilers have only given up two goals all season and their .197 goals against average ranks second in Division II.
Findlay deploys an effective platoon at the goalkeeper position as Nicole Burke and Anna Money have split their minutes almost down the middle.
Findlay has pitched five straight shutouts and have eight total on the year. The Oilers are also one of seven teams left in the country that are unbeaten – joining the company of Flagler, UC-Colorado-Springs, UC San Diego, Dallas Baptist, Mount Olive and Concordia-St. Paul.
UF’s success has seen a handful of student-athletes named conference player of the week including Anna Money (defensive), Lindsey Ahbe (defensive), Sierra Peacock (offensive) and Jayla Campbell (offensive).
Peacock is fourth in the conference in goals scored while Sam Francis is tied for fourth in assists. Last year’s conference freshman of the year Olivia Frank has a pair of game-winning goals while Peacock also has 17 points – a top 5 mark in the league.
