Men’s Soccer Players of the Week (Oct. 21)

10.21.19

INDIANAPOLIS – The first team to clinch a playoff spot for the postseason has been decided as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Players of the Week were issued on Monday afternoon.

Sixth-ranked Lake Erie saw its impressive run of 12 straight victories come to an end at the hand of Cedarville, the second meeting between the two teams.

Still, the Storm improved to 13-1 overall with a Sunday victory vs. Ohio Dominican, officially locking in a spot for the Great Midwest Championship bracket. Seven more bids are up for grabs throughout the regular season.

LEC has 27 points in the league standings, followed by Ohio Valley with 20 and Tiffin has 17. Both Cedarville and Findlay each have 16. In conference action alone, the Yellow Jackets have four ties.

The first NCAA Super Region 3 rankings will be published next Wednesday, Oct. 30.

Offensive Player of the Week
Nathan McFeaters
Malone
Forward
Junior
North Canton, OH (Hoover HS)

McFeaters was simply unstoppable in a pair of conference road victories as he posted 10 points (5 goals) for the week for top offensive recognition.

McFeaters put two goals in the back of the net against Trevecca Nazarene and followed that up with a hat trick against Kentucky Wesleyan to give the Pioneers six conference points.

If the season ended today, Malone would be in the conference tournament field, an impressive feat for a program that just missed the cut line in 2018.

The five goals for McFeaters put him at second in the league in goals scored at nine. He has now contributed to over half of the team’s points on the season as well as scoring three game winning goals.

The Pioneers defeated Trevecca 3-1 on Friday and Kentucky Wesleyan 4-0 on Saturday to extend their winning streak to three games.

The Pioneers will look to continue their winning ways as they host Cedarville on the 24th and then travel to Ohio Dominican on the 26th this week.

Defensive Player of the Week
Carter Selvius
Cedarville
Goalkeeper
Senior
Byron Center, MI (Grand Rapids South Christian HS)

Selvius and the Yellow Jackets made quite the statement with a defensive stand against nationally ranked Lake Erie, ending the Storm’s 12-game win streak.

The senior from Michigan had a huge game against fifth ranked Lake Erie College mid-week. Selvius made two saves while notching his fifth clean sheet this season. He now has 12 clean sheets during his career.

Selvius made three saves over the two games and the Yellow Jackets finished the week 2-0-0 to move their record to 7-1-5 on the season. The senior has now made 41 saves on the season and has a goals allowed average per game of 0.73.

The Yellow Jackets have now won three games in a row and haven’t lost in a month. They will look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Malone on Thursday and follow that up with hosting Walsh on Saturday to end the week.
