INDIANAPOLIS – Still undefeated at 12-0-0, Lake Erie College has cemented its status as a top five program in the country with the release of Tuesday’s United Soccer Coaches national rankings.
The Storm are now ranked fifth nationally after two more games last week against Trevecca Nazarene and Kentucky Wesleyan.
LEC was slotted at sixth the week prior, but a number of dominoes fell as Maryville lost twice vs. UMSL and Lindenwood to tumble down to No. 25 in the rankings.
Lake Erie is ranked fifth in the country in save percentage (.886) and tied for 10th in assists per game (2.25). The Storm are also one of three teams in Division II with a perfect win percentage of 1.000 – but the only program with 12 wins.
Azuza Pacific has 10 victories while Cal-State Los Angeles has nine. Lake Erie is also now ranked first in the Midwest Region by the United Soccer Coaches – but it is important to note the ranking does not have any bearing on the NCAA Super Region 3 rankings that come out later in the season.
Lake Erie has 24 points in the conference standings on the strength of eight league victories and carry a significant lead over Tiffin and Ohio Valley each with 16 points.
The road ahead won’t be an easy one with a date at Cedarville on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets’ confidence is high after beating Tiffin last week.
Lake Erie still has road games Findlay and Tiffin and home games vs. Ohio Dominican, Ohio Valley and Alderson Broaddus, left in the regular season schedule.
