INDIANAPOLIS – The midway point of the season has been reached as four different matchups are on the docket in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference this weekend in Week 6.
Current conference co-leader, Tiffin, travels to Owensboro where the Dragons will go up against Kentucky Wesleyan. The two best passing offenses in terms of yards per game go up against each other in this matchup.
Tiffin QB Nick Watson continues to lead the way for the Dragons as he averages just under 320 yards passing per game and has accounted for 19 touchdowns on the season. Watson isn’t the only offensive leader for the Dragons as he is also alongside conference leading rusher JaQuan Hardy and conference leading receiver Stanley Jackson.
Kentucky Wesleyan QB Wiley Cain comes into the game averaging just under 270 passing yards per game for the Panthers.
Another conference matchup this week finds Findlay traveling to Walsh on Saturday afternoon. The Oilers sit just one game back in the conference standings going into Saturday. They are second in the conference in points scored per game and are third in the conference in points allowed per game. The Oilers are led by a stout rushing attack that averages 264 yards per game, tops in the conference.
The Cavaliers have seen the offense move the ball as of late and picked up their first win of the season last week. The Cavaliers defense leads the league in sacks and stands in the top half in the conference in rush yards allowed per game going into this weekend.
The only other conference matchup this week is Lake Erie at Alderson Broaddus. Two teams looking to shore up a few things on both sides of the ball will look to grab a much-needed win.
The Storm are led by star DT Justin Growel, who has 35 total tackles, 14 of those being for loss. Top onto that four sacks and three forced fumbles and Growel is a man to gameplan around on Saturday.
On the opposite sideline, the Battlers rank top four in the conference in rush yards per game at about 110. The defense is looking for improvement after a tough showing vs. Ohio Dominican last weekend.
In the lone non-conference matchup of the week, Hillsdale travels to Northwood University. Northwood, a member of the GLIAC, will have to go up against the G-MAC’s second-ranked defense and fourth-ranked offense.
The Chargers average just under 150 yards rushing and are led by RB David Graham, who has five touchdowns on the season. On the defensive side of the ball, Zach Herzog leads the way as he is top of the league in tackles with 52, half of those being solo.
It is a chance this weekend for some teams to move up the conference standings and for some to start to separate themselves in what looks to be a great weekend for some college football.
