1.9.19

INDIANAPOLIS – Findlay’s men’s basketball program coached by Charlie Ernst and his staff climbed six spots in the new National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll that came out on Tuesday.

The Oilers have staked a claim to a spot in the NABC Top 25 for all six weeks of the regular season in 2018-19 and carry a 12-2 overall record.

This week, Findlay is ranked at No. 17 in Division II after sitting at No. 23 the week prior.

UF had no trouble on the road through its West Virginia road swing to begin the new calendar year, beating Davis & Elkins and Alderson Broaddus by double-digit margins.

Findlay also has sole possession of first place in the updated Great Midwest standings at 6-1 in league play. The Oilers are bidding to host the Great Midwest Men’s Basketball Championship for the second consecutive year in Croy Gymnasium.

Senior forward Alex White continues to pace the Oilers in scoring (18.3 ppg) and rebounding (9.5 rpg) and he ranks third in the conference in both categories.

Sophomore guard Tommy Schmock is the co-league leader in assists (6.0 apg) and both White and senior Trey Smith were conference athletes of the week already this year.

Findlay was voted as the preseason coaches poll favorite going into 2018-19. Ernst was the Great Midwest Coach of the Year as voted by his peers in 2017-18.
