INDIANAPOLIS – The new National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) rankings has Tiffin tied for 11th in the country as teams around the Great Midwest Athletic Conference transition into 2019.
The Dragons are the lone Great Midwest school in the new NWCA Poll despite having Findlay and Lake Erie in previous rankings of the current season.
Tiffin officially jumped up 23 spots from 34th as the first-year league member gets ready to host the inaugural Great Midwest Wrestling Championship on Feb. 1-2.
Findlay and Lake Erie both received votes. Tiffin is tied with Colorado State-Pueblo with 31 points each.
Four different Dragons are ranked in their respective weight classes, including Trey Grine (No. 5 at 149 pounds), Beau Minnick (No. 12 at 157 pounds), Hayden Bronne (No. 5 at 184 pounds) and Nick Mason (No. 5 at 197 pounds).
Both Bronne and Mason were selected for conference weekly honors this season already.
Around the conference, Lake Erie national qualifier Blake Glogouski is ranked 10th in the 125-pound weight class. He is joined by teammate Nick Boggs, another conference athlete of the week pick, ranked sixth at 157 pounds. LEC’s Jesse Palser is also ranked at No. 12 (184 pounds).
Findlay’s Josh Wimer is the top ranked wrestler representing the Great Midwest with a No. 3 billing at 149 pounds. The Oilers also have Nathan Vandemeer at No. 11 at 174 pounds.
