INDIANAPOLIS – At 6-0-0 and tied first in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference standings, an undefeated Ohio Valley men’s program held steady for the second week in a row at No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
The Fighting Scots tore through Week 2 of the regular season schedule with a win against then-No. 20 Northwood and two more victories in league play against Davis & Elkins and Alderson Broaddus.
OVU collected Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Week honors in the form of senior goalkeeper Jorge Bravo while freshman scoring dynamo Jorge Pradillos was tabbed for Week 2 offensive weekly honors.
The Fighting Scots began the preseason ranked seventh and climbed to No. 3 before entering a holding pattern at No. 2 for back-to-back weeks.
Ohio Valley only trails Midwestern State (Texas) for the country’s No. 1 ranking in Division II.
The Fighting Scots are currently locked into a first-place tie in the league standings with Tiffin, picked third in this year’s preseason coaches poll and competing in its inaugural season with the Great Midwest.
Both Ohio Valley and Tiffin have nine points in the league standings. OVU is the top team in the Midwest Region rankings while Tiffin is currently settled at No. 8.
Ohio Valley’s season continues this week with a road game at Salem before returning home for a weekend stand against Lake Erie and Trevecca.
