Golf Athletes of the Week (Sept. 12)

9.12.18

INDIANAPOLIS – With events concluded through Monday, Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s & Women’s Golf Athletes of the Week awards were announced on Wednesday morning by the league.

Men’s Athlete of the Week
Blain Turner
Trevecca
Sophomore
Mt. Juliet, TN (Wilson Central HS)

After taking the league by storm as a freshman, it might be safe to say observers were certainly curious to see what Turner could do as an encore for the Trojans in his second year with the program.

Turner was certainly off to that kind of anticipated start while helping TNU to a GreyStone Cup title as the Trojans played head-to-head against Union.

Turner fired separate rounds under par of 67 (-5) and 70 (-2) to account for 1.5 points towards the team scoring and contributed to the overall win with a final tally of 16.5 to 8.5 in favor of the Trojans.

Turner was the Great Midwest Championship medalist and the Great Midwest Freshman of the Year while compiling a stroke average of 72.65 in 21.5 rounds, tops in the league.

This marks his second career conference weekly honor in men’s golf.

Women’s Athlete of the Week
Alice Putoud
Tiffin
Junior
Lyon, France (Lycee Frederic Fays)

Weather wreaked havoc throughout the last week of competition, but Putoud and the Dragons finished on top of a 19-team leaderboard at the Michael Corbett Fall Invitational.

Putoud went back-to-back for weekly honors with a medalist finish in Erie, Pa., at the Lake Shore Country Club with a round of 74 (+2).

This was her second consecutive event earning the top individual finish (Jon P. Speiss Memorial).

The Dragons beat runner-up Gannon by eight strokes in the final team scoring and Putoud was joined by Amanda Johansson in the top 10 with a tie for seventh place.

Putoud’s scoring average through the season is now at 73.50 following two events in the fall season.
