Men’s Soccer Players of the Week (Sept. 10)

9.10.18

INDIANAPOLIS - For the second week of the season, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Players of the Week were released on Monday afternoon.

The men's soccer slate continued to round into midseason form with all teams in action this week, including 14 conference matchups. Four programs have launched undefeated starts in conference play (No. 3 Ohio Valley, Findlay, Ohio Dominican, and Cedarville).

Several improbable finishes unfolded across the league as Cedarville defied the odds playing shorthanded to beat Tiffin in double overtime. Against Lake Erie, Tiffin regrouped quickly and reeled off five unanswered goals after Storm scored in the fourth minute.

Trevecca pulled more of the unthinkable on the road at Davis & Elkins with three goals in less than eight minutes trailing 2-0 to stun the Senators, 3-2.

D&E bounced back to record a pair of shutouts on the week with clean sheets against Kentucky Wesleyan and Malone.

Cedarville currently leads the conference standings with seven points and a 3-1-1 record overall.

Ohio Valley climbed to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and could climb a little more with No. 1 Lynn being handed a defeat in advance of the new poll to be released this week.

Offensive Player of the Week
Jorge Pradillos
Ohio Valley
Forward
Freshman
Madrid, Spain (TAFD Madrid)

Pradillos is another weapon in the arsenal for the United Soccer Coaches No. 3 team in the country and the Fighting Scots are establishing themselves as contenders for a potential national title.

OVU (3-0-0, 1-0-0 Great Midwest) vaulted from No. 7 to No. 3 in the most recent national poll and continued its hot stretch with a 6-0 blitzing of Alderson Broaddus to start the conference schedule.

Pradillos is a newcomer to this year’s roster and has burst on the scene as the league’s current leader in goals per game and points per game.

Pradillos did all of his damage is one game with five points, including the game-winning goal against the Battlers in OVU’s lone matchup of the week.

He scored twice and recorded an assist to bring his season total up to 11 points on just 11 shots taken on the pitch.

Pradillos opened up the scoring against AB with a goal in the 25th minute. The Fighting Scots scored five more goals in the final 45, including Pradillos’ second goal of the game in the 70th minute.

His assist came on the first goal of the second half to teammate Juan Hoyos.

Defensive Player of the Week
Alec Mathew
Ohio Dominican
Goalkeeper
Sophomore
Pataskala, OH (Watkins Memorial)

Mathew was pivotal to a great week for the Panthers (3-2-0, 2-0-0 Great Midwest) as they pulled out three consecutive shutouts, including two in conference play, against Walsh and Malone.

Mathew was credited with two of the three shutouts in goal, Robby Frye tending net for the other blanking, and made six saves combined.

Ohio Dominican blanked Ashland earlier in the week, 1-0, and outscored Walsh and Malone by a combined score of 5-0.

After falling against Urbana and UIndy to start the season, the Panthers have reeled off the three consecutive victories with Malone and Lake Erie looming ahead for this week.

The entire ODU defense permitted just 20 shots, nine goal, against the unit in the last three games.
