AVCA - Week 1 Coaches Poll
INDIANAPOLIS – After an impressive showing at the Flagler Saints Invitational, Findlay made the ascent into the first American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Coaches Poll as announced Monday.
The Oilers (3-1, 0-0 Great Midwest) are now ranked 24th nationally after beating Saint Leo, then-No. 25 Flagler and Erskine, in order. Findlay also pushed the country’s new No. 1 team, Minnesota Duluth, to a five-set finish.
UF earned Great Midwest West Division Player of the Week honors as junior middle Shelby Kin collected the first award of the season.
Findlay was the co-division champion in 2017 after finishing runner-up at the conference tournament. The Oilers advanced into the second round of the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional and were picked second in this year’s preseason coaches poll.
The Great Midwest Athletic Conference was also represented in the first AVCA Poll by Hillsdale as the Chargers collected 98 votes for a ranking of 28th.
